Kutztown, PA – A 19-year-old Kutztown University student was fatally beaten on Main Street in Kutztown early Friday morning by three men who were roving the small college town looking for a fight, authorities said.

Kyle G. Quinn of Warminster, Bucks County, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk in the 100 block about 2:30 by a borough police officer, said borough police and Berks County District Attorney Mark C. Baldwin.

The officer apprehended five men from Allentown — none of whom is a university student — in a car parked at the scene.

Authorities later charged three of them in the assault: Terry D. Kline Jr., 22, his brother Kenneth R. Kline, 21, and Timothy R. Gearhart, 23.

The three were arraigned late Friday afternoon before District Judge Wally Scott in Reading. Scott sent them to Berks County Prison in lieu of $10 million bail each.

The Kline brothers and Gearhart were charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, recklessly endangering another person and conspiracy.

Baldwin said he expects to file murder charges following an autopsy scheduled for today in Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown.

Quinn was taken to the hospital by helicopter after being transferred from an ambulance at the Kutztown Airport. A staff doctor pronounced him dead at 3:36 a.m.

“This was a very severe beating; the victim suffered multiple injuries throughout his body, ” Baldwin said.

Baldwin said Quinn, who lived on campus, suffered head injuries including a deep cut to the left side, and numerous bruises.

Borough Police Chief Theodore R. Cole Jr. said he believes it is the first slaying of a KU student in the borough, which hasn’t had a murder since 1982.

According to a friend of the victim, Quinn had been at his brother’s off-campus house and was walking back to his dorm when he was attacked. Read the rest of the story here.
